The great-nephew of jazz icon Nat King Cole has been stabbed to death.

Tracy Cole, 31, was the great-nephew of the renowned jazz singer and pianist and also related to the late singer Natalie Cole. He has tragically died after being found with multiple knife wounds at an apartment complex after being attacked in the street.

Mr Cole, from Georgia, was attacked in Atlanta at around 2am local time on Thursday. Police said Mr Cole was stabbed multiple times and was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and no arrests have been made in relation to the incident as of yet. Authorities are working to determine a motive for this tragic slaying.

Tracy was known for his positive personality and was loved by many in the community. He worked at a cigar club in Atlanta and was an active member of Cascade United Methodist Church. Atlanta Cigar Week posted on Instagram that the cigar community is "deeply saddened by the loss of such a vibrant sole."

A friend of Tracy's, Octavia Oliver, told Fox 5 Atlanta: "Always laughing, always smiling with his corny jokes. Everybody loved him." Another friend, Henry Stokes said: "He was one of those guys who was always around with positive energy and it was always so good to be around Tracy."

Despite his family's musical legacy, Tracy was celebrated for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. No arrests have been made in the case, and the motive remains unknown, leaving the community deeply saddened and calling for an end to such violence.

Cole was also a member of Cascade United Methodist Church in Atlanta. Senior Pastor Kevin Murriel said of him: "Tracy had that personality that just really transcended culture, it transcended race, it transcended class. Tracy made a friend of everyone. He was family. He was more than a young man in the community. He was that child who walked the floors and aisles of the church. He just brought an abundance of joy everywhere he went."
