Goosebumps brings jump scares to Disney Plus in time for spooky season
Who doesn't love a good jump-scare?
And with spooky season right around the corner, what better way to curl up on those chilly autumn evenings than with a mug of cocoa and a new series of Goosebumps? The revived show is on its way to Disney Plus, with the first half of ten episodes dropping next month as part of the platform's Hallowstream celebrations.
The return of Goosebumps will be a full-on nostalgia-fest for kids that grew up in the 90s and noughties, with the original books by R.L Stine attracting legions of fans over the years. Its deft mixing of mystery and suspense and good old-fashioned great storytelling has ensured its place in the hearts of today's youngsters, too.
The Disney Plus series - which is also coming to Hulu - is the second TV outing for Goosebumps; with the first being an anthology series that aired from 1995-98. The popular novels were also the basis for two feature films in 2015 and 2018 that memorably starred Jack Black as a fictionalised version of Stine.
Using Travis Scott's day-glo Goosebumps as a soundtrack, the new trailer introduces five high schoolers (played by Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig and Will Price). According to the synopsis our heroes “embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past".

The new series on Disney Plus draws its inspiration from the books Say Cheese and Die!, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms! and Night of the Living Dummy. And the talented cast tasked with bringing the words to the screen include Justin Long and Rachael Harris along with EastEnders star Zack Morris, Star Trek: Picard’s Isa Briones and Gossip Girl actor Ana Yi Puig.
Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said ahead of the launch trailer: ‘R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages.’
She continued: "We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney Plus and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation."
