Boxing legend Chris Eubank Sr's brother Simon has passed away.

The news was announced by Simon's son Harlem Eubank who is also a boxer. He said: "Rest easy up there dad. We love you and we’ll try do you proud." Simon, who was 61, also turned professional but did not enjoy the same success as his brother, winning seven of his 27 fights with his final one coming in 1992.

The Eubanks' loss comes two years after Chris Sr mourned the passing of his 29-year-old son Sebastian who died after suffering a heart attack in Dubai, leaving a wife and young son. The former middleweight world champion is still seeking the truth around the death of his son having filed court papers in Las Vegas.

Fighting under Simon Eubanks, Chris Sr's brother had his first paid fight in 1984 and won four of his first five bout. But he lost his next five and would never fight for a title. Conversely, his brother was involved in some of British boxing's biggest rivalries, including with Nigel Benn with whom he twice shared the ring.

Fighters took to social media to pay their respects, with Michael Conlan saying: "Sorry for you loss my brother, see you soon." Gary O'Sullivan added: "Sorry for your loss Harlem, RIP Mr Eubank" and Shannon Courtenary said: "Sorry for your loss Harlem sending you and your family lots of love xxx."

Simon's son Harlem has taken up the mantle in the ring, following his cousin Chris Jr into the professional ranks. The 29-year-old has won each of his 18 fights, stopping seven of his opponents in the process but currently jas n fight scheduled having last appeared in July.

His cousin, on the other hand, breathed new life into his career earlier this month when he stopped Liam Smith in their rematch. Eubank Jr had himself been stopped in the rivals' first fight in January, but avenged that defeat to put himself back into world title contention.
