With the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral looming, there is one happy event today that will provide a much-needed distraction from any sadness felt amongst the late monarch's family.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's young daughter, Sienna Mapelli Mozzi, is celebrating her second birthday. The late Queen's great-granddaughter and 10th in line to the throne was born in 2021 at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London and was named Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi by her proud parents. Edoardo also has a son Christopher Woolf 'Wolfie' from his previous relationship with architect Dara Huang - meaning 35-year-old Beatrice is his stepmum.

The meaning behind Sienna's first name was explained by a family friend who told Hello!: "They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [Sarah Ferguson], and also reflected the golden rust colour of both the Duchess's hair colour and Beatrice's, which the new baby shares."

And, much like her other cousins, Princess Beatrice chose to honour her late grandmother by including 'Elizabeth' in Sienna's name. The desire for an Italian link stems from Edoardo's own family and his aristocratic links to Italian nobility as he is a Count. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Edoardo's father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, explained: “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation."

And while Sienna is a beautiful name, some thought the couple would choose to follow a family trend that Sarah, Duchess of York started and Princess Eugenie carried on with her two sons, August and Ernest. Sarah has a well-documented fascination in the life of Queen Victoria and even served as a producer on the 2009 film 'Young Victoria'. Her interest runs so deep, in fact, that she named her two daughters after her.

Beatrice was the name of the Queen’s youngest daughter with Prince Albert and all three of Princess Eugenie’s names (Eugenie Victoria Helena) follow the same trend.

The princess carried on this trend when her son, August, was born in 2021. The name August was one of the names of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. He was christened as Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel. Another potential royal link in the young royal's name is to Prince Augustus, Duke of Sussex - an eccentric son of King George III and favourite uncle of Queen Victoria.

This happened again earlier this year with the birth of their second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Ernest was the name of Queen Victoria's brother-in-law and featured in many of her descendants names, including King George V. The name Ronnie is in honour of the Duchess' late father, Major Ronald Ferguson, who died in 2003.
