Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has been charged with assault after a video appeared to show him ‘punching’ one of his constituents in Cheshire.

The video showed the MP for Runcorn and Helsby punching a man, who fell to the floor. Mr Amesbury then hit him repeatedly before members of the public intervened.

Labour MP Mike Amesbury says he is cooperating with police investigating reports of an assault involving the backbencher.
