Sum 41's Deryck Whibley in hospital with pneumonia and 'may face heart failure'
Sum 41 lead vocalist and musician Deryck Whibley, who is also known as Bizzy D, has been taken to hospital unexpectedly and may face heart failure, his wife has revealed.
The 43-year-old Toronto-born rocker has pneumonia, with there being a "possibility of heart failure", according to Deryck's wife Ariana Cooper Whibley. The 32-year-old model took to social media to share the worrying news, which likely left fans concerned for the star.
Taking to social media, Ariana shared a string of snaps, and one even saw her husband being taken away in an ambulance while strapped to a hospital bed as he sat upright and donned a medical face mask. "Deryck and I were supposed to be in Chicago right now, celebrating our eight-year wedding anniversary but the universe had a different plan for us," Ariana revealed alongside the concerning snaps.

One snap saw the rocker in a stretcher being put in the back of an ambulance (aribarbara/Instagram)She went on: "We spent the entire night in the ER and will now be spending the next few days here in the hospital as he fights through pneumonia. The scariest part is that there is a lot of strain on his heart and they are telling us that there is a possibility of heart failure."
Ariana then explained how it was not their first time in a situation "like this" but added that "it brings back a lot of really difficult memories seeing him back in a hospital bed connected to wires and IVs". She then concluded the lengthy caption and health update with: "I know how strong he is because I have witnessed what he has been able to overcome but that doesn’t make it any easier to see. I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated but if you could keep him in your heart over the next few days, we could really use it."
Fans and loved ones were quick to comment on the post, with one writing: "My heart was already hurting today, but now extra. Keeping the Whibley family in my thoughts. Lots of love from Canada." Another added: "You're all strong and you're going to make it through this" Anything you need, feel free to reach out. Sending love your way."
This isn't the first time Deryck has suffered ill-health. Back in 2007 he endured a slipped disc during a concert which led to chronic back pain and a series of injuries. Then three years later in 2010 he was rushed to hospital after getting attacked by three unknown people in a bar in Japan.
The back injuries, alongside severe anxiety, led to the rocker self-medicating with alcohol, with him then hospitalised for alcoholism in 2014 and was told by doctors he had severe liver and kidney damage after he collapsed in his kitchen. Deryck has been sober ever since, with him and Ariana both going sober together after the health scare.
