A man went behind his vegan wife's back to feed animal products to his son - and now she's fuming. The 32-year-old man said he and his wife, 33, have been married for eight years and have a 12-year-old son together. About six years ago, his wife decided to go vegan after she watched the documentary Dominion. According to the husband, ever since his wife watched the film, she has said non-vegan food is "revolting" and refuses to eat it.

After the couple had a long conversation, he agreed to go vegetarian and be vegan in the house and around her. She also decided their son should be vegan and after seeing a dietician, the husband also agreed with the idea. He explained that things had been fine with this arrangement until a few months ago. He had begun finding wrappers from non-vegan candy and burgers from McDonald's in his son's school bag, which he had been buying with chore money.

"I had a conversation with my son and he confessed he felt lonely and excluded eating vegan around his friends and that they always had much better candy than he did and it wasn't fair," he posted on Reddit. "I decided I didn't want him spending his pocket money on snacks and throwing out the vegan snacks we actually brought him … but I also know the way my wife feels about non-vegan products. So, I began buying my son what he wanted on our way to football practice instead."

Eventually, his wife found out what had been going on and, according to the poster, she "completely flipped out". He continued: "She called me an animal abuse enabler and a few other names and said I was corrupting our son. Now she is not speaking to me, our son panicked and told her I had bought the snacks for him and he didn't know they weren't vegan (I don't blame him for that, he just doesn't want to be in trouble with mum)."

The majority of people were strongly on the husband's side but some pointed out that he should have spoken to his wife first. "Going vegan is a choice. She did not give you or your son a choice about your dietary preferences. Of course, your kid will go behind her back. I would too. It's really not her decision. I'm surprised you aren't sneaking off with your son for a burger," one person wrote.

"Your son is 12 years old and old enough to decide whether he wants to continue being vegan or not. You did the right thing by accepting his choice but maybe you should have talked to your wife about it, it's never a good idea to do things behind your partner's back. Whether she agrees or not, you would have continued to support your son anyway, he's free to choose now," said another. A third person added: "Mum is the AH (a***hole) for making her family go vegan. Dad is the AH for going behind her back, instead of addressing the issue. The kid is just being a kid, so of course he's NTA (not the a***hole)."
