The mum of a man caught having sex on an easyJet flight has said she is embarrassed by her son's antics - but doesn't believe he has done anyone 'any harm'.

In a viral 30-second clip, a flight attendant is seen standing outside the toilet before opening the door, where a couple are briefly shown in a compromising position. The male involved then quickly slams the door shut. easyJet said the flight was met by police after landing at Ibiza from Luton airport on September 7 due to the behaviour of 'two passengers onboard'. The man was later identified as Piers Sawyer, who is from Tunbridge Wells and works at a local Audi dealership. In another video, fellow passengers cheer and applaud the couple as they return to their seats while punching the air, but it's not a reaction that appears to be shared by Piers' mum.

Elaine, 51, said she was watching Loose Women where the incident was being discussed when she first heard about the clip, and soon afterwards began being forwarded the video by her son's friends. She told the Sun: "It’s not something a mum wants to see. Piers doesn’t want to talk about it. He probably just wants to forget it. You’re aware these things are going to happen at the holiday destination but you don’t expect it to happen on the flight."

"You just don’t think about stuff sometimes. Yes it’s embarrassing but I don’t think they were doing anyone any harm." In his defence, the mum suggested Piers may have been caught up in the party atmosphere on the Ibiza-bound plane as a "23-year-old single lad on his birthday", and said she believed the air steward should not have opened the toilet door. Elaine also said she understood the woman was not someone her son knew well, and that the pair had likely met at the airport.

EasyJet have confirmed the incident took place on board one of their flights and added that police were informed. A spokesperson for the airline said: "We can confirm that this flight from Luton to Ibiza on 8 September was met by police on arrival due to the behaviour of two passengers onboard." In the United Kingdom it is illegal to intentionally engage in sexual activities in a public lavatory, under Section 71 of the Sexual Offences Act. No charges or arrests have been made in the UK or Spain in connection with the incident.
