Coronation Street star Shobna Gulati found herself in a state of utter panic after she locked herself in a toilet backstage at the Channel 4 show, Steph's Packed Lunch.

The 57 year old star, who played Sunita Alahan on the ITV show between 2001 to 2013, was later freed by actress Hayley Tamaddon. The pair were appearing on the popular talk show to discuss the tour of their musical, Everybody's Talking About Jamie

Awkwardly, the pair emerged after a while and Hayley who also starred in Corrie as Andrea Beckett, told show host Steph: " Do you know she got locked in your toilet earlier today, we’ve had a great morning honestly. She got locked in the loo, it was brilliant, we’re lucky she’s here. I had to use a credit card to unlock it.”

Never one to miss a hilarious moment, Hayley documented the embarrassing incident on her Instagram account for the world to see. Shobna, who was killed off in the soap ten years ago sported a very different appearance to that of her charcter. Talking to Steph, Shobna proudly showed off her grey locks which framed her face.

But in 2021, when the star first started to embrace the change in her hair colour, she admitted that she was proud of how she has aged as she doesn't want "to have to look a certain way." She told Platinum magazine: "I don’t want to have to look a certain way, or how people perceive I ought to look. Ours is a youth-obsessed society, but the good news is that I’ve watched a lot of European thrillers and dramas during the lockdown and it seems that being female of a certain age and experience is represented on screen."

She added: "Whatever you look like is OK; faces move and grey hair is present, both of which I’ve allowed myself to do.' In the chat, she also gave an insight into how she deals with mental health amid tough times. She went on to explain: "I have the ability to spiral down and down and down, so in order to mitigate that I’ve tried to tackle it by looking at what happens when you rise from the ashes.”

In the same year, Shobna revealed that she battled with pneumonia after contracting Covid. The star said that she suffered with the virus for more than a year and issued a warning to fans to take it seriously.

Taking to Twitter she told her followers: "Long covid is no joke on another round of anti biotics - I’ve cancelled Monday. I feel dreadful the wheeze across my chest is real." And on the back of her tweet fans rushed to support the actress. One wrote: "Really sorry, I wish you a speedy recovery."

Another added: "So sorry Shobna xxxx." A third said: "So sorry to hear this Shobna. Sending love and well wishes." And a fourth, sharing the same sentiment wrote: "Sorry to hear this. Lots of Vitamin C and D to build immunity. Sending you healing vibes."
