Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher looked downcast after they were spotted for the first time since apologising for supporting their That '70s Show co-star Danny Masterson ahead of his rape conviction.

Masterson was sentenced last week to 30 years in prison for the rape of two women. Mila and Ashton had been heavily criticised after it was revealed they had written character references for the disgraced actor ahead of his sentencing.

The married couple have now been spotted cutting glum figures as they took their children to a karate class after addressing the backlash. They both kept things casual, with Mila wearing a pair of distressed denim shorts and a light blue hooded sweatshirt.

The actress styled her long brown hair into a high bun and carried around her child's karate belt while walking around wearing a pair of brown flipflops. Ashton went for an equally casual appearance, wearing a white T-shirt and baggy black trousers.

The Guess Who star also wore a black baseball cap which he wore backwards and he opted for a comfy looking pair of black trainers. Ashton and Mila's family outing comes after they were forced to apologise for any pain caused after writing letters of support for their former co-star Danny Masterson.

They had both penned letters for the convicted rapist ahead of his sentencing, in which Ashton referred to Masterson as a "role model". Mila also made reference to his "exceptional character", documents show.

Taking to Instagram after their character reference letters were revealed, Mila and Ashton apologised to those who may have been hurt by their actions. Speaking to the camera, Ashton said: "We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson."

Mila added: "We support all victims. We have done this historically through all our work and will continue to do so in the future." Explaining the situation, her husband continued: "A couple of months ago Danny's family reached out to us and they asked us to write character letters to represent the person that we knew for 25 years so that the judge could take that into full consideration relative to the sentencing."

Mila then said the letters weren't questioning the validity of the ruling and said they never intended to "re-traumatise" the victims. She added: "Our heart goes out to every single person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse, or rape."

The victims of rapist Danny Masterson have since slammed the apology. Journalist Yashar Ali shared the women's reaction on Twitter, writing: "Jane Doe #1 , one of the women Danny Masterson was convicted of raping, just texted me her reaction to Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis' video."

The message from her said: "This video was incredibly insulting and hurtful. My hope is that they learn radical accountability and the importance of self-education to learn when to keep their privilege in check—especially Ashton, who claims to work with victims of sex crimes. And as to Mila, I can only think of "Times Up"."

After several days of deliberation, a jury found Masterson guilty of the crimes on May 31. The assaults occurred in 2003; during which time he was actively filming That '70s Show. He was alleged to have raped a third woman, but the jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision on the third allegation and the charges were dismissed.
