BBC presenter Clare Runacres shared an emotional post 20 years after being told nothing could be done to treat her aggressive cancer.

The Radio 2 newsreader took to social media as she celebrated her and husband Mikey’s 20th wedding anniversary, but the milestone date had another significance, and Clare revealed she was diagnosed with cancer in her 20s just months before getting married. Sharing three photos of her blissful nuptials on X, she tweeted: “Six months before this photo the cancer I'd had at university had returned. It was aggressive.”

Alongside the picture of her and Mikey smiling at each other as they walked down the aisle, Clare continued: “There was no further treatment. We got married very quickly, not knowing how long we’d have. We didn’t think I’d make our 1st anniversary. Today is our 20th. It was a beautiful day. Full of love and tears. Surrounded by our closest friends and family, we put our fears aside and danced til dawn.” The journalist and podcast host confessed she was overwhelmed with emotion looking back at her wedding day photos, as they signified just how far she’s come.

“Even now I can't look at the photos without feeling that raw emotion. To reach 20 years feels like a miracle. Mikey, thank you for taking a chance on me. You're the best person I know. You are my miracle. For those living with cancer - keep hoping, believing, dreaming,” Clare ended the empowering and inspirational post. Her followers were quick to send their support to the newsreader, with many congratulating her for being cancer free for two decades.

“With tears now rolling down my face, I just want to say how beautiful these photos and words are to celebrate a truly memorable day, now here’s to 20 more amazingly happy years together for you and Mikey,” one replied, while BBC veteran presenter Nick Owen added: “Wow! That is some story. Congratulations to you both.” A follower congratulated Clare on her “extraordinary” health journey, and wrote: “Congratulations seems inadequate. Cheers to you both.”

“What an amazing and inspiring post - Happy anniversary!” another chimed in, as one commented: “This is lovely to hear, and here's to the next 20 for you both!!!” Her fans were seemingly unaware of Clare’s previous cancer diagnosis, and she was praised for inspiring other people who had been diagnosed. “Clare, I had no idea about your cancer battle. All I know is you looked beautiful on your wedding day, you are beautiful now and every time I hear ‘this is Clare Runacres’ on Radio 2 it’s a balm for the soul,” one fan sweetly replied.
