Whether you're a weathered space pirate or a squeaky-clean UC Vanguard captain in Starfield, you've probably come across contraband or stolen goods. Here are the best places to sell them.

Starfield is a huge game, and in true Bethesda style, this means there's a lot of junk you're able to pick up, wherever you go (unless it's a barren lifeless planet). As you're exploring various locations, you'll come across items which have either a yellow or red symbol in their descriptions, this indicates that the items are either contraband (yellow symbol) or stolen items (red symbol).

Contraband items are illegal in Starfield, and if you attempt to smuggle contraband onto a planet which contains one of the game's major cities such as Jemison (New Atlantis), Volii Alpha (Neon) or Akila (Akila City), your ship will be scanned for contraband (but the scan can't detect stolen items). If you're caught with contraband in your cargo, not only will these items be confiscated but your stolen items will be too.

Luckily, there's a particular place in Starfield where you can sell your contraband and stolen items without being scanned first, which can help you save towards building an outpost or buying a new ship from a shipyard, without resorting to the infinite money glitch. Here's where to find it.

The best place to sell contraband and stolen items in Starfield is at a space station called The Key, which is located in the Kryx star system orbiting a planet named Suvorov. The Key is owned by the Crimson Fleet, the space pirate faction, who don't exactly follow the laws of the settled systems, but this makes it the perfect place to sell contraband and stolen items.

Make your way to Reckoner's Core and you'll find a variety of merchants including TK's Tactical Gear, Aludra's Weapon Ship, Isra's General Goods, Zuri's Essentials and Trade Authority, with the latter being our recommendation as the best place to sell both contraband and stolen items in Starfield.

But you can't just turn up and dock with The Key, in fact, you're likely to be met with significant resistance unless you've joined the Crimson Fleet faction beforehand. To start your journey towards joining the Crimson Fleet, you'll need to get arrested on Jemison (no really), which will trigger the Deep Cover mission.

Following this, you'll need to complete the Rook Meets King mission and pledge your allegiance, which will then give you full access to The Key and its merchants. We'd highly recommend doing this mission, as well as the Into the Unknown mission if you haven't already done so!
