A 22-year-old man has been arrested after a fight over the weekend which resulted in two people being taken to hospital with video of the altercation shared widely on social media.

D'Andre Frederick Hartwell was taken into custody on Tuesday, September 12, on a felony warrant after the incident happened at an Auburn, Alabama, apartment complex on Sunday morning. He has been charged with assault in the second degree.

Police arrived at the apartment complex after receiving calls about an assault taking place in the early hours of Sunday. Video of the brawl, which The Mirror has chosen not to show, has two males fighting on the ground.

One appears to be on top of the other, repeatedly punching him in the head area. A female stood close by then tried to intervene, at which point one of the males picked her up and flipped her to the ground.

Police identified Hartwell as the "offender" in the fight that was recorded by bystanders. Both victims in the video appeared to be unconscious.

The charging document against Hartwell lists one victim, who is only identified by initials. Both victims received non-life-threatening injuries, according to police, and were transported to local hospitals.

During their investigation, police said it was determined that a physical altercation happened in the car park of the apartment complex. They said the circumstances surrounding the fight indicate this is an isolated incident, and that the parties involved knew each other prior to the incident.

In a statement on Monday, police said: "Responding officers located two victims who sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Both victims were transported to area hospitals where they were treated for their injuries and released."

"The circumstances surrounding the altercation indicate that this is an isolated incident, and that all parties involved were acquainted prior to the incident," they said in their initial release.

Videos circulated on social media platforms have also been viewed by police as evidence. The Auburn Police Department said: "The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.

"Videos of this incident have been publicised on social media platforms and have been viewed by Auburn Police for evidentiary value. We encourage anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has information pertinent to the investigation to reach out to the Auburn Police Department."

The incident is still being investigated by police, who said on Tuesday they are expecting additional charges to be filed in relation to the case. Hartwell was transported to the Lee County Jail after his arrest and is being held on a $25,000 bond.

The fight appears to have taken place near Auburn University, the second-largest university in Alabama. It is home to more than 30,000 students, with almost 25,000 of them being undergraduate students, and has produced some notable alumni including Tim Cook, Bo Jackson and Octavia Spencer
