Nicki Minaj is seemingly smitten with her husband

American rapper Nicki Minaj, who will take on the role of the MTV Video Music Awards' emcee tonight, is totally smitten with her husband.

According to reports, Nicki met Kenneth "Zoo" Petty when she was 16, with the couple childhood sweethearts who then went their separate ways before rekindling their romance in 2018. The couple's romance began again after the Starships hitmaker returned to Queens in 2018 for a charity event. A source revealed: "They linked up when she handed out turkeys for Thanksgiving in her hometown".

The couple, who were loved-up before Nicki found global fame and success, had a pretty active sex life before getting wed. Nicki even revealed how frequently they got it on in a Q&A with her Twitter followers back in January 2019. She told followers that she and Kenneth were having sex three to four times a night "on average" because "6 is a bit much sis".

And it seems that the couple were for keeps, with the childhood sweethearts then getting married in 2019. Nicki and Kenneth kept things low-key for the ceremony, with not much about their big day widely known. Speaking out at the time, a source revealed that "Nicki wanted to keep her wedding low-key" after she became "much more private". The source then added that she was very "happy" after her nuptials.

Announcing her marriage on Instagram, Nicki shared a snap of two mugs and black and white baseball caps that had the words "bride" and "groom" on them, signifying their marriage.

Speaking out on her marriage in June 2020, Nicki gushed over married life. She coyly told People: "I can't complain. I really cannot freaking complain. I didn't think it would be as refreshing and calming as it is. Even if you're not married, when you have someone that feels like your soulmate or someone who understands you, it just makes you feel like you're on top of the world."

The couple then announced that they were expecting a child in July 2020, when Nicki took to social media to announce she was "#preggers". At the time she also penned: "Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes." Nicki reportedly gave birth to her first child on September 30, 2020, according to TMZ.

The Super Bass singer's husband is currently serving one year in home detention after failing to register as a sex offender in California, with him also sentenced in July 2022 to three years probation. And earlier this year we reported that the couple's neighbours were said to be trying to get rid of her and her husband from their fancy A-list area, due to historic sex offence charges.

In 1995, when the now-45-year-old was around 17, Kenneth was convicted in New York for the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl. The rapper's husband was convicted of first-degree rape and served four years in prison.

Taking to Instagram in December 2018, Nicki addressed her husband's conviction when she said: "He was 15, she was 16 … in a relationship. But go awf, internet, y’all can’t run my life. y’all can’t even run y’all own life."
