Corrie actor 'sad' as he confirms co-star Chris Gascoyne's exit as Peter Barlow

Coronation Street actor Bill Fellows has shared his sadness over pal and co-star Chris Gascoyne's looming exit from the ITV soap in the coming months.

It was reported in July that actor Chris was bowing out of the ITV soap for "an extended break", more than 20 years after he first appeared in the role. The ITV soap has yet to confirm the departure and when it will air, while sources confirmed to The Mirror that the exit was not permanent.

Now, Stu Carpenter actor Bill has shared his thoughts on the exit, admitting it was "sad". Confirming the departure, Bill exclusively told The Mirror he hoped to film with Chris ahead of his character Peter's departure from the show. He did not confirm when the exit would air, but seemed to confirm that actor Chris was still currently filming with the show.

He told us when asked who he would like to film scenes with on the soap: "I've already had scenes with Ken played by Bill Roache, which is great. There's loads of characters I'd like to do a scene with. I really do like working with Bill I have to say.

"A very good friend of mine who I've had very little to do with is Chris Gascoyne but unfortunately he is leaving, it's sad but hopefully I will have a few little things with him [before he goes], but everyone is so good and so nice."

It was revealed in July in reports that actor Chris would leave the role again, despite ITV yet to confirm the news. He first appeared as Peter in 2000 and made a permanent return in 2016 after a few exits over the years. A source told The Mirror that Chris had decided to "take an extended break" from the soap, after initial reports suggested he had quit the role for good.

It's not yet known when or how he will leave the show, but actor Chris was confirmed for a new role earlier this year. The star will be swapping the Manchester set for Saint Albans ahead of the upcoming pantomime season and will now be appearing at The Alban Arena.

The theatre confirmed: "The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season! It's said Chris is taking the break to pursue other ventures, while the door has not been closed on a later return. It's thought he won't be killed off, while a return date is not yet in the pipeline. Peter remains on screen for the time being.
