Girl, 2, dies after being found in pond as woman arrested on suspicion of murder

A two-year-old girl has died in hospital this afternoon after being found in a pond near her home yesterday.
The youngster was reported missing and found a short time later in Kingsley Pond near Bordon, Hampshire, before being rushed to hospital in a serious condition.
She died on Monday and a woman has been arrested. Hampshire Police said tonight: "A woman, aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. She is currently in police custody."
Hampshire Police were called at 5.02pm on Sunday after the two-year-old girl went missing from her home in Kingsley. She was found a short time later in the pond and was taken to hospital in a serious condition but died on Monday afternoon.
No further details about the woman arrested have been disclosed by Hampshire Constabulary at this stage. Last night, a car park near the lake was filled with approximately a dozen police cars as officers gathered to search for missing youngster, BBC reported. The large pond is 574ft long and 236ft wide, according to reports.

Writing on Facebook, members of the public shared their sadness at the tragedy and offered the toddler's family support. One woman shared: "So so sad... RIP little one xxxxx."
Another Facebook user posted: "Very sad to hear about this little girl... My heart goes out to your family and friends, and everyone who knows you. God bless you RIP." A further social media user wrote: "Such heart-breaking news. RIP little one" and ended her message with a crying emoji. Hampshire Police's investigation continues.
