A cramped studio flat is on the market for £1700 a month, but the landlord admits you "cannot stand" in the bedroom.

The pokey pad has a living room with a sofa plus a small dining table with two chairs. There is a separate kitchen boasting an oven and hob, microwave, sink, and washing machine. The modern bathroom has a shower, toilet, and basin. There is also a balcony so tenants can eat their "breakfast in the morning sunshine." The sleeping area is accessed by wooden steps with storage drawers in them and a ladder is also provided.

A double mattress takes up the floor and the only other furniture is a bedside table with a lamp on it. Dwellers have to crawl or crouch down when getting in and out of bed. The studio flat, in Bayswater, central London is being advertised on OpenRent. Tenants also have to pay a £1,961.53 deposit before moving in.

It is suitable for two people - ideally couples or students. But bills are not included, pets and smoking are banned, and there is no garden or parking. The listing reads: "A charming studio flat with balcony in the heart of Bayswater next to Hyde Park. Within walking distance of Paddington, Notting Hill, and the West End with great transport links including Paddington Station, Crossrail, and the Elizabeth Line. The flat benefits from high ceilings, and a separate mezzanine sleeping area.

However, the listing warns renters about the height of the ceiling which restricts standing. The landlord adds: "Please note this has a low ceiling and you cannot stand in this area. And a covered balcony where you can eat your breakfast in the morning sunshine. There is clever and useful storage in the Tanzu steps and modern common parts.

"The last tenants said that the flat was in the perfect central location with a comfortable mezzanine sleeping area and such a luxury to have the outside space with Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens nearby. "We are private landlords who want to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Absolutely ideal for couples."
