Arnold Schwarzenegger wears big cast after requiring surgery for 'nerve damage'

Arnold Schwarzenegger showed off a painful-looking ailment after needing to undergo the knife for elbow surgery.

The Terminator star, 76, has had to tell gym pals "I'll be back" after the operation. And he's now been spotted sporting a large cast on his right arm as he begins his recovery from the surgery. Alongside the large bandage, Arnie was sporting a grey t-shirt and shorts combination while also opting for a pair of long black socks. His dark sunglasses finished off his usual look during his California stroll.

It's said the former bodybuilder went in for the procedure on Thursday and had the protective cast covering his entire right arm to help the recovery process.

According to TMZ, sources said the Hollywood icon had suffered nerve damage in his elbow which led to the surgery requirement. It's thought he will be unable to train for around a week. The operation comes after Arnie had opened up about a previous procedure in 2018 when he had heart surgery.

The actor sent out a newsletter update via his fitness group, Arnold's Pump Club. The health update stated how in 2018, Arnold went through his unexpected open heart surgery which was initially supposed to be a routine procedure. However, despite the seriousness of the incident, Arnold went on to make a speedy recovery, especially since he didn't have time to waste with his role in Terminator 6 ready to shoot right away.

In the letter, Arnie detailed what his recovery looked like for him, saying: "Since I was starting from zero, my daily exercises became the breathing exercises that would keep me from getting pneumonia, the big danger for patients after open-heart surgery. Then, there were walks around the nursing station. Eventually, I went home and walked around my property."

He went on to explain how he was forced to slow down, making him look at his own health in a different perspective. Rather than doing some heavy lifting, the star chose to focus on the motions and mobility itself. Thankfully, by the time his doctor's cleared him to add on some actual weight, he was ready to film once again.

Arnie confessed reflecting on that time by seeing images of him with a walker is difficult but admitted he had to share his experience to try to offer "motivation" for readers. He added: "I want you to know that it is never, ever too late. No matter how old you are and no matter what health challenges you are dealing with, training will improve your life."
