USA talisman Christian Pulisic has revealed that he would eventually like to return to his homeland to play at the end of his career.

The former Chelsea attacker has made no secret of his love for his country in the past and it appears that a move to MLS could be on the cards in years to come. Having just moved to AC Milan over the summer, a switch to the US could still be a while off for the forward, however.

Still, the 25-year-old ace's words will be promising for MLS chiefs, especially given the astronomical increase in interest in the league since the arrival of Lionel Messi. Undoubtedly, the Pennsylvanian-born star's openness to eventually moving stateside shows the growing status of the division.

The question was put to Pulisic on USA teammate Tim Ream's The American Dream podcast, where he seemed to approach the subject positively. He told the Fulham defender: "Absolutely, I’d love to [play in MLS]. Not in the, you know, near-near future for sure, but yeah, I absolutely would love to. Towards the end of my career, I’d love to."

Undoubtedly, signing one of the most talented players to emerge from the country would represent a major coup for MLS. Still in the prime of his career, his comments would seem to suggest that he would not consider an approach from any clubs in the league for several years.

Under contract at San Siro until 2027, with an option for an extension for another year after that, it would seem that any deal for the star will have to wait. Undoubtedly, the next few years represent an exciting time for the sport in the US with 2024 Copa America and 2026 World Cup taking place on home soil.

Despite plying his trade at club level in Serie A, it appears that Pulisic is as determined as anyone to see the popularity of football increase in the country in the coming years. To this end, he expressed his commitment to this endeavour, saying: "I want to grow the sport in this country more than anyone, it’s super important to me.

"I think I’ve seen, just coming back in the last - however long my career has been- how much the game has grown, it’s awesome to see. If I can be a small part in that, and hopefully — like I said, towards the end of my career — come back and build a little bit more excitement around the game and have our best American players playing in MLS, I think it’s gonna help a lot."

The flying winger also did not hold back when asking Hollywood's A-Listers to consider attending USMNT matches in the future earlier this month. He issued a barbed reaction to a host of household names including Selena Gomez and Leonardo DiCaprio watching Lionel Messi's Inter Miami versus LAFC, saying: "Let them know they're invited to US national team games too".

The man once christened Captain America by the Chelsea supporters has made a strong start to life since moving to Italy. He has already notched two goals in three Serie A games for Milan as he looks to reinvigorate his club career following a tough spell in West London.
