The incident was caught on video, and a second video showed Ms Pinto entering a police cruiser. The department acknowledged both videos and is investigating Marlett's actions. The situation has attracted public attention and scrutiny.

Despite the scandal and publicity, Ms Pinto appeared unapologetic, stating that it would pass and that she was focused on living her life. She mentioned having children, including a 15-year-old autistic son, and suggested a preference for Caucasian men, as such was the father of her child, too.
Ms Pinto claimed that, in her view, she had done nothing wrong and that both she and Officer Marlett knew this. She mentioned that Paula, Officer Marlett's wife, had strong words for her on social media but didn't comment further on the accusations.

In my head, I’ve done nothing wrong. I’m going to continue living my life, doing what I’m doing. In my heart, in his heart, I know that I’ve done nothing. He knows. Paula knows. I’ve done nothing wrong. God is my higher power."
But Ms Pinto has gotten into a rift with her lover's wife, Paula, who called her out on Facebook, telling her to "rot in hell." Paula suggested that Virginia Pinto's husband left her because she couldn't stop cheating and inserting herself into other people's business.
She also indicated that her husband used Ms Pinto for sex because she was easy. Paula mentioned that she had not previously discussed the state of her marriage publicly but suggested that like all marriages, they had hit a rough patch.

Police Chief Malik Aziz commented on the issue: "I know the officer’s actions seen on these videos have sparked a range of emotions in the community and put a negative spotlight on this agency and the many hard-working women and men who wear our uniform. I expect every officer to conduct themselves in a way that will not dishonour this agency or this county. I assure the residents of Prince George’s County I take this matter extremely seriously."
