Paddy McGuinness says it's taken 'courage and soul-searching' after ditching UK amid Christine's return

Paddy McGuinness has celebrated a milestone life event on a recent European getaway, admitting that it has taken "a lot of hard work" and "courage" to "finally" reach it.

The Take Me Out presenter took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that he'd arrived in Austria, posting a photo of him against an idyllic background of the country's stunning mountainous region.

Paddy, 50, was dressed comfortably for the outdoorsy occasion, wearing a black t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms with a pair of white Nike sneakers. He also added a preppy twist, tying his white sweater around his shoulders to keep cool in the hot weather.

Never one to miss an opportunity for self-deprecating humour, the father-of-three was quick to joke about the uncharacteristic fashion decision in his witty caption.

"It’s taken a lot of hard work, determination and soul searching but I’ve finally built up the courage to wear a jumper around my shoulders," he wrote. Paddy's outfit was met by mixed reviews from his followers, with some approving of the styling, and others expressing their exasperation.

"Oh @mcguinness.paddy I thought more of you," one disappointed person wrote, while another said, "Your parents would call that 'notions'." This negative feedback was counterbalanced by a flurry of kind messages, many of whom called Paddy's ensemble "dapper" and even "preppietastic."

Paddy didn't disclose the reason for his Austria trip, but promised his devout fanbase that "all would be revealed" soon. He also gave an exciting tour of the Lufthansa business class lounge at the Munich airport, which included an impressive buffet of complimentary sweets, cakes and drinks. He even gave his fans a cheeky glimpse into him taking a shower in the VIP area before he boarded his short flight back to the UK, which he noted was experiencing "roast potatoes" weather.

Paddy's update comes just after his ex-wife Christine McGuinness returned back from a holiday with the couple's three children, 10-year-old twins Penelope and Leo and six-year-old daughter Felicity. The Real Housewives of Cheshire star took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a back-to-school update, in which she hailed her kids - all of whom have been diagnosed with autism - as "confident" and "superstars."

Paddy and Christine separated in 2022, after 11 years of marriage. In a joint statement, they confirmed the split before highlighting their intention to focus on raising their beloved children.

"We hadn't planned on sharing this publicly until we were ready but after the lack of privacy surrounding our personal life, we feel left with no other option but to clarify," they wrote.

"A while ago we took the difficult decision to separate but our main focus as always is to continue loving and supporting our children. This was not an easy decision to make but we're moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children. We'll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together.

"We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life. Although we work in the public eye we ask kindly if you could respect our wishes for privacy on this matter. We'll be making no further comment."
