One tiny village tucked away in the south of England has been crowned the most beautiful in the UK, despite not being well-known.
South Pool is a cosy parish in Devon, in the heart of the countryside that is known for its lush landscapes which give way to picturesque beaches. And now it has been named the "most beautiful village" in the UK by CN Traveller. They described the charming location as being known for its "sailing brigade, smart shops and ice-cream parlours".
The area has recently seen an uptick in popularity on social media thanks to the stunning surrounding beaches with one traveller describing the nearby Banthan Beach as the "most beautiful beach without leaving the UK". But some locals were keen to keep South Pool hidden, playing down rave reviews online with one saying: “Shhh, don’t tell anyone! We locals want to keep it a secret!”
The area around South Pool has a number of nature trails and golden beaches making it the perfect area to explore, or enjoy a relaxing break. There are also a number of watersports in the area like canoeing, kayaking, surfing and paddleboarding, but those in search of a more relaxed approach can book a cruise. Canoeing trips will explore the local area and wildlife, The Express reported.
History lovers can take a look at the local South Pool Church of St. Nicholas and St. Cyriac located on a hilltop, making it tower over the village. It was built in the 15th century but is known for its gorgeous stained glass windows.
Eight remote and beautiful but brutal jobs if you want to leave it all behindWhen it comes to food, South Pool has many cosy tearooms, cafes and pubs to dine out in, but the most famous area in South Pool is the Millbrook Inn located right next to the seaside and is known for being the centre of the village.
