One Grade II Listed cottage is tucked away down a peaceful country lane, and on sale for just £150,000 - but there’s a catch.

From the outside, the four-bedroom home in the village of Stoke Climsland, near Callington, Cornwall doesn’t appear to be anything out of the ordinary. Situated down a peaceful lane, on the face of it, it could be an ideal getaway spot for a cheaper price amid the country’s issues with property prices and house buildings.

But once inside, potential buyers will quickly see why the property is on the market for such a cut rate price. The insides have been long abandoned, with holes in the ceiling and discarded rubbish about the place.

There is a small living room with a large fireplace plus a sofa, armchair, dining room table and sideboard. The room looks intact, belaying just how bad some of the other rooms are. In another room, the carpet is full of masonry and there are holes in the ceiling. The other reception room has more discarded furniture and gas canisters.

In one of the upstairs bedrooms, the ceiling is also damaged, as well as the walls. It also comes with a garden and a mini log cabin to store wood for the fireplace. The property is available to purchase via auction and is being sold by Kivells.

The listing reads: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a Grade II character cottage bursting with potential. Located on a remote country road, Chapel Cottage is perfect for those wanting a peaceful and private setting. No near neighbours and minimal passing traffic.”

But it adds: “This four-bedroom detached cottage presents a wonderful opportunity to purchase a character property in need of renovation and refurbishment throughout. Viewing is highly recommended.” The auction takes place on 13 September.
