Pete Wicks was 'embarrassed to be Sam Thompson's friend' after Ant and Dec awkwardly snubbed the former Made In Chelsea star on the red carpet for the National Television Awards.
Tuesday night saw television's biggest stars arrive at London's O2 Arena for a night of celebration and endless awards. Ahead of the event, stars took to the red carpet to pose for pictures and chat with reporters. Radio host Sam was on the red carpet with his close pal Pete to talk to celebrities about the big night.
However, things got awkward when Sam tried to nab a quick interview with TV's very own Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. In a clip shared on Sam and Pete's Staying Relevant TikTok, fans got to see the painful moment Ant and Dec rushed past Sam to get inside the venue.
"It would be amazing to interview you for five seconds if that's okay?" Sam asked as he approached the comedy duo. One of Ant and Dec's team members shook their heads to say a chat wasn't possible. "Are you sure?" Sam asked. Meanwhile, Pete patiently stood a few feet away from them watching it all unfold.

In the background, Ant reached out to shake Sam's hand but the latter mistook it as a confirmation for an interview. He said: "Oh good man, thank you sir! Oh, you're saying hi. We've always wanted to be you! We've always wanted to be you."

At that moment, Ant and Dec were ushered down the red carpet while fans chanted their names. Pete said: "Oh god, the awkwardness," while Sam refused to give up and followed them down the carpet. "I am disgusted. Sam is now chasing them down the red carpet," he said.
When Sam returned, Pete admitted watching the embarrassing moment was worth the whole night as he told his pal: "I think I'm going to have to go. I'm going to be honest, that past 10 minutes have made tonight worthwhile because I don't think I've ever been more embarrassed to be your friend."
Sam seemed unphased and told Pete with a huge grin on his face: "I think we smashed that!" Fans were just as amused by the awkward snub and took to the comment section to laugh at the scenario. One even pointed out that Sam chased after Dec while calling out Ant's name.
"His security team were like, 'no, we're not talking to the man in blue Crocs'," one user said as they joked about Sam's choice to wear bright blue Crocs with his black suit. Another said: "Howling Pete's like ooooohhhh I don't need to be a part of his [laughing face emojis] dying."
"Pete had the right idea... Stand back and pretend he's not with you," one joked while another commented: "I've got twelfth-hand embarrassment but also isn't that what we all wish we had the balls to do!"
