This is the terrifying moment two traffic wardens are brutally battered in the middle of a street in Birmingham.

The disturbing footage was captured outside a restaurant in the Sparkhill area of the city on Monday afternoon. One officer is seen being kneed in the face, while another is pinned against a car and surrounded by three men who throw punches at him. As he desperately tries to escape, one of the attackers grabs his leg, causing him to fall over in the main road as car horns blare in the background. West Midlands Police have confirmed they are investigating the assault, and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

No arrests appear to have been made so far. Inspector Neil Kirkpatrick condemned the "nasty" assault, which is not believed to have caused any serious injuries. He told the Mirror: "We’re aware of video footage of the attack circulating on social media which shows a particularly nasty assault on two traffic enforcement officers.

"No one should have to be subjected to violence in the course of their work and I’m relieved they did not suffer more serious injuries. We’re determined to bring their assailants to justice and I ask that anyone who witnessed the assault or who has information should contact us if they haven’t already done so."

Birmingham City Council said it will be reaching out to the employer of the two officers to ensure that they are doing well. A spokesman said: "Nobody should suffer abuse or assault for simply trying to do their job and we will be contacting the company that employs the officers to ensure they are okay and see if any support is needed."

Anyone who witnessed the assault or has any further information is urged to contact West Midlands Police via live chat on its website quoting crime reference 20/196136/23, or get in touch anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
