Lewis Capaldi sent an emotional message to fans as he won the Best Authored Documentary at the National Television Awards.

The Someone You Loved singer was up in the Documentary category alongside Deborah James: Bowelbabe In Her Own Words, Matt Willis: Fighting Addiction and Rob Burrow: Living with MND. Lewis won for his documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I'm Feeling Now, which documents his incredible rise to fame and how he copes with the pressures of his success.

He won the award tonight, and whilst he wasn't there in person to collect the award, Joel revealed he was in America and shared a video message that Lewis had sent to be played if he had been the one to win.

In a video he filmed whilst in America, he said: "Hello there, it's Lewis here. If you're watching this, it's because I won the NTA award. Thank you so so much if you voted or even if you just watched the documentary. Thank you so much for voting, and thank you for everyone who made it. A massive shoutout to my fellow nominees. You're all incredible. Making a documentary is not easy in the slightest, from what I've learned. It's an honour to be nominated alongside you. I'll see you soon."

Back in June, Lewis was forced to cancel his tour dates after his emotional performance at Glastonbury.

"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped three weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend so much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time," he said in a statement at the time.

"I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can."

Lewis was diagnosed with Tourettes back in 2022, and during his Glastonbury appearance, his fans finished off the lyrics for him.

"I really apologize. You’ve all come out, and my voice is really packing in. We’re gonna play two more songs if that’s cool, even if I can’t hit all the notes," he said as the fans duly finished off his songs for him.

He also admitted that he struggles most during moments of stress. During his award-winning documentary, he shared of his own experiences: "When I’m in traffic it flares up. When I’m exhausted or after a big thing, it gets very bad."
