Pub goers baffled after seeing pet tortoise enjoy lunch at popular boozer
A man has left residents baffled after he was spotted taking his pet tortoise everywhere with him including to the pub and the beach.
Roy Moody, from Isleworth, Middlesex, recently took his beloved reptile named Two Eater on a holiday in Cornwall. The Sulcata tortoise was seen enjoying lunch at the highest pub in Cornwall - the Old Inn at St Breward - where she feasted on fresh tomatoes and a handful of the inn's renowned chips.
But the Old Inn wasn't the only place on Two Eater's itinerary. The nine-year-old tortoise also had a day out at Polzeath beach. Mr Moody told SomersetLive: “Two Eater comes pretty much everywhere with me and really enjoys her trips out.
“She’s had some tomatoes and some of the chips at The Old Inn which she quickly tucked into. It’s the first pub she’s ever visited and she’s really enjoyed it.
“People keep going past and doing a double take - it’s not the sort of thing you normally see sat outside a pub and she has had a lot of attention. But the weather is good and she is loving the sunshine. And she’s looking forward to another beach visit.”
Mystery as hundreds of tiny fish wash up dead on UK beach leaving locals baffledTo ensure Two Eater doesn't wander off, Moody uses a harness typically designed for an Alsatian. However, given her species, it's debatable how far or fast she could actually go if she did manage to escape.
Mr Moody added: “She loves walking but has a mind of her own. So I make sure she doesn’t scoot off by having her in a harness.” Darren Wills, the owner of the pub, confirmed that this was indeed the first time a giant tortoise had visited their boozer.
In an unprecedented event that has left locals stunned, the pub owner shared: "We get lots of dogs and horses, but this is beyond doubt the strangest pet we’ve ever had visit the pub. We are delighted Two Eater enjoyed her chips and tomatoes and look forward to welcoming her back for a return visit.”
