Emmerdale spoilers see Cathy receive life-changing diagnosis as teen lashes out
Emmerdale spoilers for next week see Cathy Hope officially diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Bob Hope is sympathetic to daughter Cathy's condition but she is left feeling disappointed and frustrated when her only treatment is to manage her symptoms instead of an outright cure. Later, an upset and volatile Cathy blindsides Bob by defiantly insisting she wants to find a cure to stop her PMDD symptoms.
Despite the best efforts of Bob, Wendy Posner and Bernice Blackstock, Cathy is unrelenting in her desire to cure her PMDD and the teen later lashes out. In a heated moment, Cathy throws a garden ornament through a B&B window and it just narrowly misses Manpreet Sharma.
Things then go from bad to worse when Wendy tries to intervene to which Cathy takes her anger out on her and shoves her to the ground. A desperate Bob, who recently suffered a heart attack, runs to help but feels a twinge in his chest. Later, Manpreet checks over Bob and Cathy is concerned to see her dad struggle.
Cathy then tries to check on her dad to which Wendy tells her to leave him and the teen runs off, bleeding from a cut on her hand. Later, Dr Liam Cavanagh finds Cathy at the bandstand with her hand bleeding to which she begrudgingly allows him to look at it. However, things soon spiral out of control when Cathy reluctantly appreciates Liam's promise to listen to her but soon jumps to conclusions…
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessSoap watchers will recall that Cathy has struggled with her mental health and physical symptoms for months. The teen has found herself lashing out, as well as suffering from painful and heavy periods. Things took a worrying earlier this year when the teenager suffered from a manic episode and nearly got herself killed, as she didn't seem to realise or care about the danger she was in.
Sharing her concern, Manpreet had previously suggested the cause of Cathy's feelings and symptoms could be Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. Manpreet explained to Bob, after recalling a case study: "We think it might be a condition known as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder.
"It's a cyclic hormone based mood disorder. The symptoms and severity can differ between patients. A treatment that works for one person might not necessarily work for another. We need a specialist diagnosis first but I can make a referral today and get them started."
She advised there was no medical cure for the condition, and patients could experience it right up until the menopause - but there were treatment options.
