Former Coronation Street actress Rebecca Ryan has revealed she’s turned her back on showbiz for a glamorous new job painting nails.

The 32-year-old TV star - who played Lydia Chambers on the long-running ITV soap from 2021 until March last year - is delighted about her new role. Rebecca, who hails from Manchester, walked away from the cobbles in 2022 to give birth, welcoming a daughter named Aurora in May this year.

And now the soap star has revealed that she is taking her career in a new direction, having qualified as a nail technician. Taking to Instagram this week, Rebecca proudly showed that she had received a certificate from LIT Training Academy in Manchester. She shared a photo of herself via Instagram Stories posing with her framed qualification in her hands.

The TV star also explained that fans will soon be able to book in to have their nailed transformed by her own fair hand. She wrote alongside her snap: “Nail appointments are available Thursday 7th. DM @aurora_nails_bybex to book” - along with a single white heart emoji. While her dedicated nails Instagram page explains she can provide Builder in a Bottle nails, Gel polish and nail art.

Rebecca’s acting career has been impressively broad since she broke into the spotlight way back in the early 2000s. Her first major role was playing Debbie Gallagher in smash hit Channel 4 comedy-drama Shameless, appearing in 65 episodes between 2004 and 2009.

She went on to have a guest role in Holby City and then played Carly Hope in three episodes of Emmerdale in 2006. She played Vicky MacDonald in the BBC school set drama Waterloo Road from 2009 until 2011, and had roles in Casualty, DCI Banks and Doctors.

She quit Corrie last year after her character was seen pushing on-screen boyfriend Adam Barlow, played by Sam Robertson, off a balcony and leaving him for dead. After bowing out of the soap, Rebecca explained how much she loved appearing on the show.

She told Metro at the time: "I really have had the best time. When you find out you have a job on Coronation Street, it’s daunting. It’s an iconic show, it’s not just any show especially when you come from Manchester. I don’t tend to get very nervous when I do things and act but I was so nervous in my first week. This is Coronation Street, it’s a big deal."

She proudly announced her role as a new mum earlier this year, sharing photos of her baby daughter on social media. She wrote at the time: "Welcome to the world my beautiful baby girl Aurora."
