Katie Price says mum nearly died after activists blocked motorway
Katie Price has revealed her mum almost died due to direct action taken by eco-protestors Just Stop Oil.
The 45-year-old claims that Amy almost missed out on a life-saving lung transplant due to action on the M25 in November 2022. Amy was diagnosed with chronic lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in 2017, and when a suitable pair of lungs became available for transplant, doctors estimated that the 71-year-old had just two weeks left to live.
Speaking to Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing on his Private Parts podcast, she said: “Mum had two weeks left to live at the time. She found a donor. She was waiting five years for a lung. It was the day all the oil protesters were on the M25 and you have three hours to get to hospital otherwise you can’t have the donor [organ]. So they had to get an ambulance. When they were on the motorway, they didn’t realise.”

She added: "They had to go up the hard shoulder, and get an ambulance to get through it, because if you’re not there you lose it [the lung].” Recovery from the enormous operation took three months, and Amy kept it quiet until recently, when she thanked NHS staff for all their support and for saving her life.
Last month she shared more about the procedure - including some sensitive details. Amy revealed she briefly died on the operating table following her transplant surgery. Speaking on Katie's podcast the The Katie Price Show, Amy said: "I went into cardiac arrest and they had to pump me to bring me back and I didn't know that... Apparently I was shouting out, 'I can't breath, I can't breathe, they're killing me.

They're trying to kill me.' I'm hot, I'm sweaty, I can't breathe. I thought, 'Five o'clock, the nurses change so these two nurses, people that are trying to kill me, right, they go home'. So I was counting strips on the wall, thinking, 'Right as I'll do that one, breathe slower and then you save your energy a bit more'."
She added that she had made peace with dying as she had decided that her troubled eldest daughter "would eventually sort herself out."
Reps for Just Stop Oil said: "Good news for Katie’s mother and her family and friends that the lung transplant went ahead. We wish them well. The closure of the M25 motorway in places last November was a decision by the police. Just Stop Oil supporters had climbed up gantries above the motorway and did not block any lanes.
"Our policy is, and has always been, to move out of the way for emergency vehicles with siren sounding and ‘blue lights’ on. It's also worth noting that ambulance drivers are trained to use the hard shoulder in emergencies when encountering traffic queues - it's what the hard shoulder is designed for."
