Angela Rippon has been told she was among BBC stars targeted by a Russian cyber attack.

The ex-newsreader and Strictly contender, 78, got a letter saying her details were stolen in the payroll software hack, which also affected British Airways and Boots in June. It is understood the data included physical and email addresses as well as National Insurance numbers.

TV presenter Steph McGovern, 41 another victim, told her podcast The Rest is Money: “I was with Angela Rippon when she got her letter too. She even had her information nicked!”

Payroll software provider Zellis admitted eight of its clients, including the BBC, were among those targeted by the Russian-speaking gang. The so-called Clop group is said to have warned firms to get in touch within a week to stop them publishing workers’ stolen details.

According to the BBC, the Clop group made its threat on the dark web. It said: “We continue to take this incident extremely seriously and we are working with our specialist teams and external experts.”
