Eamonn Holmes has shared a video of wife Ruth Langsford having an unusual medical treatment.

The Loose Women star was filmed giving herself a ‘steam’, which doctors have advised her to do twice a day after she was diagnosed with a chest infection she is struggling to shift. Her illness has kept her off work for a week so far as she battled over the weekend.

In the new clip, Ruth is seen breathing into the steaming device as husband Eamonn asked: “What are you doing?” “Steaming,” she replied. “Does it get rid of blackheads? Take deep breaths,” Eamonn joked and Ruth hit back: “Don’t make me laugh, it will make me cough.”

Sharing the clip with her one million followers, 63-year-old Ruth told fans: “So day 3 of antibiotics and the doctor told me to steam twice a day... I try to do this in peace but @eamonnholmes decided to watch and offer helpful advice this morning! The steamer is from @beurer_official bought from @amazon if there are any other sufferers out there #chestinfectionsucks.”

On her Instagram stories, she said she was “trying everything” as she shared a clip of herself pouring a lemon and ginger manuka leaf tea with a drizzle of Marks and Spencer honey and turmeric ginger in it.

Fans were quick to offer tips to speed up Ruth’s recovery and called for husband Eamonn to wait on her hand and foot. One joked: “God love ya, take it easy @eamonnholmes get her a bell.”

Another follower commented: “You definitely need some TLC there - @eamonnholmes make sure you’re being a good nurse xxx.” A third wrote: “I have one of these [steamers] and it really helps. Stick with it. Wish you better soon.”

“I am asthmatic and I just use a large bowl of steaming hot water with Vicks in it. Works a treat and you get a facial as well,” a fourth said. While a fifth advised: “Night time coughing – lay a freshly cut onion and place on side table. Room smells in the morning but it works! x.”

After revealing she had the ‘lurgy’ earlier this week, Ruth gave fans a health update on Friday saying: “My 'lurgy' is actually a chest infection! So here I am on antibiotics and a steam vaporiser twice a day!"

Her announcement comes as Ruth has been keeping fans updated with her ailment since failing to appear on Loose Women since Monday. In a post on Tuesday, Ruth showed herself making a ‘hot toddy’ and said she was going back to bed.

Two days later Ruth revealed she was still feeling rundown and had made a "healthy soup" to try and remedy her ailments. She told fans: "Still got the lurgy! Got out of my sick bed to make myself some healthy soup though. Gathered what veg I had and added a carton of @frejafoods Chicken Bone Broth - just discovered this thanks to my lovely friend @justinemjones - it’s delicious! (bought and paid for, not an Ad!) "

She added: "Thanks for the recommendation Justine! Added some cooked chicken and simmered the whole lot into a bowl of nourishing goodness. As my granny used to say….”that’ll put hairs on your chest”!!" Fans will have to wait and see if Ruth is well enough to be back on Loose Women next week.
