Eighties icon Carol Decker has shared a health update with her fans after having major surgery.

The singer underwent colon surgery earlier this week after saying she found "something nasty growing up there". The lead vocalist for band T'Pau took to her Instagram page to tell her followers she's "recovering well" after her operation.

The day after she posted a selfie on Twitter from her hospital bed in Oxford. Carol said: "Day 2 Recovering well from my colon surgery just knackered from the GA it was a long op 3hrs 40 mins huge shout out to the wonderful colorectal team at The Churchill hospital Oxford headed up by Prof Chris Cunningham I have had the best care thank you ⁦@NHS."

Fans replied to her statement with words of support. One said: "What a trooper. The NHS too! X." A second added: "Oh Carol! Hope you’re as ok as you can be under the circumstances. Take Care xxx."

"Get well soon Carol xxx," a third simply said. Carol replied to the well wishes saying that "will be back" soon. She wrote: "Thanks for all your kind wishes I’ll be back causing trouble soon!"

The star went on to update followers further on Wednesday, writing: " Carol said: "I just had colon surgery as had something nasty growing up there. But thankfully benign and I wanted to give a shout out to the fantastic colorectal team here at the Churchill Hospital headed by Prof Cunningham in Oxford I could not be in better hands.

"We hear often how the NHS doesn’t work. Let me tell you here it absolutely does #angels #caring #love #givingthanks I’m recovering well."

Carol first found fame in 1986 as the lead singer of band T'Pau before the group eventually split up in 1992. The band's most popular song is China In Your Hands, which is the longest-running UK number one.

The singer went on to have her own solo career as well as becoming an actress. Most recently, in 2018 she made a guest appearance in an episode of the British comedy TV series Benidorm, as herself.
