Robbie Williams made a shocking confession as he shared he was left in a 'precarious position' on stage after suffering from food poisoning.

The Take That star, 49, stunned his fans after revealing the embarrassing accident on his social media years after it happened. Robbie joined the hit boy band back in 1990 when he was only 16 years old but decided to leave the group in 1995. After going solo, he rejoined the band numerous times. In 2011, Robbie went back for the Take That reunion tour but suffered an unfortunate incident.

Taking to his Instagram Robbie revealed: "So, I had food poisoning once on the Take That tour. *When I rejoined. It was Horrendous. It felt like death. We unfortunately had to cancel a show in Denmark because of it. I still feel bad. Anyway, A few days later we were playing at the Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam. Still not anywhere near well enough I ventured to the stage. I was in the precarious position of not being able to ‘trust a fart’. Which was unfortunate because that’s what I needed to do during my opening song. ‘Let Me Entertain You.’"

He continued: "As I’m sure you can imagine it didn’t remain just a fart. But ever the pro I retained my composure and committed to the performance 100%. Because of the picture I’ve just painted I’m sure you have questions. But let’s just let sleeping logs lie for now.” Robbie went on to speculate which other performers have had a similar accident, as he settled on Mick Jagger and Thom Yorke.

Fans couldn't believe Robbie made such a confession as one said: "I was at the Ajax and you hugged me! I didn’t know you’d s**t yourself!" Another added: "This has cheered me up." Someone else commented: "I was there at the Amsterdam gig and it was clear you were giving it all you had but still looked poorly."

The former Take That star has been noticeably introspective on social media in recent weeks, frequently sharing thoughts and opinions on a very personal level. Last week he took to Instagram to share his thoughts on dealing with stress. In a highly personal post, the Angels singer confessed he often struggles to deal with the feeling of emotional tension. He appeared to share his thoughts to help start a dialogue with his fans about the condition.

The chart-topping star shared a selfie of himself looking sternly at the camera. He wrote: “My brain runs away with itself. It’s confusing and tiring. I seem to be lacking the ability to deal with any kind of stress whatsoever. This, of course, is not good. And don’t worry. I’m not doing a cry for help. This is just everyday normal s**t. Just some Friday s**t.Or Saturday or Sunday. My mind has its own narrative. I try to cajole it, Try to tell it to behave, tell it nice things.

“But it seems to want what it wants. It must enjoy the chaos of its own misinformation somehow. And it is misinformation. I know that. At least intellectually I do.” Robbie went on to explain how he feels he could win awards for the mental gymnastics he performs to try to ease his stress levels. He said: “It’s busy up there. Very.If intrusive thoughts were cardio. I’d be the fittest in the gym."
