Let Loose are set to make a comeback as they reform to make a new single, 29 years after topping the UK charts with their hit song, Crazy For You.

The British pop trio's reunion will see original members, guitarist Rob Jeffrey and drummer Lee Murray, welcome newcomer and former Boys Inc singer, Matthew James Pateman, as the band's lead singer.

Vocals and keyboard had previously been led by Richard John “Richie” Wermerling. The surprising announcement has been met by excitement by fans of the band, whose short-lived tenure in the music industry was marked by six Top 40 hits and a best-selling album.

"We’re so excited to be coming back with Let Loose," Lee told Metro. "It’s something our fans have been asking us to do for years, and we’re so happy that everything’s fallen into place with Matthew now as our lead singer, as he’s so brilliant."

Matthew, who is currently in a band called Jean, chimed in that he's "always had respect for Let Loose and their music." The 52-year-old went on to defend the group's talent, adding, "In the industry, they were always 'dumped' into the 'boy band' category, but they’re more than that."

He also took to Twitter to share fans' support, retweeting the reaction of one particularly excited listener: "Not going to lie - this news with the added bonus of the official insta account following me is giving me MAJOR fan girl feels. My 16 year old self is happy dancing."

Matthew will likely be able to bring some serious assets to the reformed Let Loose, having previously found stardom as the lead singer of Bad Boys Inc. The band, which was formed by music producer Ian Levine in 1993, enjoyed moderate success with hits like 'Don't Talk About Love' and 'More To This World'. They broke up in 1995, however, after failing to stand out against rival bands like Take That and Boyzone.

In 2008, Lee and Richie reunited to compose a new song without Rob. They were also booked to perform in the autumn of 2014 for the Another Place, Another Time arena tour, marking their return to the stage as a band in nearly two decades. The throwback concert series would have seen them join the likes of Atomic Kitten, All Saints, East 17, Jenny Berggren from Ace of Base and Big Brovaz, for eight nostalgic shows across the UK. It was cancelled, however, just two weeks after tickets went on sale.
