EastEnders star breaks silence on dramatic return 8 years after being killed off

Returning EastEnders star Ricky Norwood says he was thrilled to be back after making a shock return - eight years after his much-loved character was brutally killed off.

Viewers were in disbelief over the shocking twist that aired during a flashback sequence in the latest episode, following Cindy Beale's epic return as Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubb appeared for a few seconds. Viewers have long been furious over the character's death, wanting justice and a return to Albert Square for the soap favourite.

They got their way with a little cameo and while it seems Fatboy is still very much dead, many fans hoped it might encourage bosses to bring back the character for good following Cindy's return from the grave. They loved his comeback and called for the unannounced return to Walford to be just the start.

Ricky took to X, formerly known as Twitter and penned: "Guess who back..!?!? Even for a brief moment… What an episode and what an epic storyline to be apart of @missmcollins Big Thanks to Chris Clenshaw for making it happen! The @bbceastenders team for keeping it super secret. Just wish Mrs. B could of been there."

DJ Fatboy was killed by Ronnie Mitchell's hitmen on Christmas Day after she ordered a hit on husband Vincent Hubbard. Getting crushed in a car boot after a case of mistaken identity, that seemed to be that - but viewers were tonight shocked to see a blast from the past. It left everyone remembering how he left - and the reasons behind the popular character being killed off.

His departure came after he was suspended from the soap a year before after allegedly being caught on a webcam performing a naked sex act. Actor Ricky was also previously suspended for two months from the show after a video of him smoking cannabis and performing a sex act was leaked online.

A BBC statement said at the time: “Ricky Norwood has been suspended from the show for a period of two months with immediate effect. In addition, Ricky would like to apologise to EastEnders’ viewers for any offence caused and for bringing the show into disrepute.”

Refusing to rule out the possibility that Fatboy was still alive somewhere, Ricky previously said: "I mean, it's EastEnders and if you're a fan of EastEnders then you'll know that there are many characters that have died and come back. So, you know, anything is possible. EastEnders is such a big machine, they’re going in 100 different directions right now. They know my number, I’m still a friend of the family there. There ain't no hate, there ain't no animosity."

The moment Fatboy's face appeared on screen sent fans into meltdown, with many begging bosses to bring him back. Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "Fatboy and Cindy in the same scene. Perfect, can Fatboy come back full time please?"

Another tweeted: "FATBOY!!! Can’t believe it," as a third added: "FATBOY!! Soon as I saw that F chain I knew. I could scream." Meanwhile, a fourth fan wrote: "Can’t believe they bought Fatboy back in," as a fifth fan said: "Seeing Fatboy in today’s episode acc brought tears to my eyes."

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
