EastEnders' Fatboy 'alive' as link to Mary 'exposed' after flashback clue

EastEnders fans think they have worked out a major new return twist for a dead character, after a clue in the latest episode of the BBC soap.

Fans are convinced Fatboy will finally return to the show for good, and not just as a cameo, after a possible link to another character was revealed on Tuesday night. Viewers were in meltdown on Tuesday, as the soap dropped a surprise cameo from the much-loved character.

Fatboy appeared back on screen for the first time since 2015 during a flashback sequence in the latest episode, following Cindy Beale's epic return. The flashback confirmed Cindy, who came back from the dead herself earlier this year, actually returned to Walford in 2014 - years on from her apparent death in 1998.

After the death of her daughter Lucy Beale nine years ago, Cindy raced back to Walford to be with her family who thought she was dead. She was stopped though by her police handler Mary, with Cindy being in witness protection over an incident in prison.

Mary managed to convince Cindy not to go through with her plan in case she put the Beales, and her secret second family the Knights, at risk of danger. What Cindy wasn't expecting, and neither was viewers, was to bump into a familiar face who she did not know.

Suddenly, Fatboy appeared on screen in the most surprising return cameo ever, and fans loved it. Actor Ricky Norwood reprised his role for the special scenes eight years on from his BBC soap exit that saw his character axed from the show, with Fatboy shockingly killed off in a twist. Viewers have long been furious over the character's death, wanting justice and a return.

Now, fans are questioning if there was some significance for Fatboy of all people to appear in the flashback episode. Fatboy was killed in a case of mistaken identity back in 2015, while his death wasn't actually shown. He appeared to be crushed in the boot of a car.

Ronnie Mitchell had organised for Vincent Hubbard to be attacked by a group of thugs, with him the intended target. But it was revealed it was Fatboy who was put in the boot instead, with Vincent and Ronnie too late to stop it. Instead, viewers saw the car being crushed by a crane at a scrapyard, suggesting Fatboy was dead.

With us never seeing a body nor his death being confirmed on the show, despite it being suggested he had died, fans are now wondering if his return to Walford via the cameo could be the biggest hint yet he is still alive. For him to cross paths with a resurrected Cindy and someone who works for witness protection, Mary, could it allude to Fatboy having been saved?

Fans have always speculated he might have been placed in witness protection to protect him from Vincent or the group that were after Vincent. Now some viewers think the scenes with Mary, and for Fatboy of all people to feature in the cameo, could be a hint that their paths crossed again a year later.

Mary could be the key to Fatboy's true fate, and whether like Cindy he had to leave Walford for good and start a new life elsewhere. Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "why else would they show fatboy specifically if he wasn’t going to meet mary later for his own witness protection… he’s alive trust me."

Another fan agreed: "Fatboy back in Eastenders for a cameo! Did he really die in the car crushing? A possible return???" as a third said: "Sorry but #EastEnders bringing Fatboy back for a cameo must mean something????" A fourth fan agreed: "A fatboy return is defo on the cards.. he’s in witness protection."
