Rapper Eminem is said to have demanded that Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy stops rapping his music during his 2024 campaign trail for U.S. President.

The 50-year-old rapper reportedly sent the Presidential candidate a cease and desist letter demanding he does not use his music after Vivek rapped his hit song Lose Yourself at the Iowa State Fair as he spoke alongside Iowa's Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds. According to a letter obtained by the Daily Mail, Eminem contacted the music licenser BMI and asked them to revoke Vivek's campaign license to use his music.

A representative for BMI reportedly shared a letter with Vivek's campaign lawyer who said: "Received communications from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign's use of Eminem's musical compositions (the "Eminem Works") and requesting that BMI remove all Eminem Works from the Agreement."

This comes after Vivek used Eminem's hit 2002 song during his "walkout song" at the state fair after excitedly stating that it was his favourite song. The 38-year-old American businessman rapped every word of the hit song for a cheering crowd and received more than 8 million views on Twitter after a recording of his performance was posted.

After receiving the cease and desist letter, a spokesperson for Vivek's campaign told the news outlet: "Vivek just got on the stage and cut loose. To the American people's chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real slim shady."

Vivek has reportedly been a life long fan of Eminem's music and during his college days at Harvard University, Vivek reportedly performed themed raps under the name "Da Vek." In an interview with The New York Times this month, Vivek said: "I did not grow up in the circumstances he did," he continued: "But the idea of being an underdog, people having low expectations of you, that part speaks to me."

The Detroit rapper has never shied away from expressing his political beliefs over the the span of his career and has made it clear that he will speak his truth whether or not it divides his fan base. In 2017, Eminem made his political stance clear after rapping an anti-Trump freestyle bashing the former President during the BET Hip Hop awards.

Following the performance, Eminem said in the Chuck D. "Fight for Power" documentary: "If it’s gonna divide my fan base, then so be it. You might divide some people, but you also can bring so many people together. And maybe I can take this opportunity and this platform I get to be somebody who could inspire change. The power of rap has brought so many people together."
