EastEnders aired iconic scenes on Monday night as soap legend Cindy Beale made her big return to Walford, and found her true fate finally exposed to a number of residents.

Michelle Collins' character stepped back into Walford for the first time in over two decades, and 25 years after her character was killed off offscreen. In epic scenes, Cindy came face-to-face with former nemesis and mother-in-law Kathy Beale - and the moment did not disappoint.

Letting herself into the Beale house that was once her home, she shocked Kathy with her arrival - and all Kathy could do was say: "You're dead...". Soon enough, Cindy explained all about her time in witness protection and her reunion with Kathy's son Ian.

Things got heated though as the women faced-off, leading to a classic EastEnders catfight. Soon enough though, Kathy kicked her out warned her to stay away.

What Cindy didn't realise was that she was about to come face-to-face with another familiar face, but not someone from her time in Walford. Cindy failed to mention she had another family and had two daughters, Anna and Gina Knight.

The Knights are now in Walford but Cindy didn't know this, so didn't see the need to mention her secret family to Kathy. If only she had though, as Kathy had organised the catering for Anna's birthday party.

Sending Cindy on her way, she asked her to take over the food for the party to The Queen Vic where the party was being held. Oblivious to the fact she was heading to the new home of the daughters she abandoned around nine years ago, Cindy set off - only to be spotted by Ian who also returned in the episode.

Ian did know about the Knights, as did their son Peter Beale, and so he was trying to stop her from going to The Vic. But it was too late, and as Cindy got closer she saw her second husband George Knight stood outside. George knows Cindy as Rose Knight, her fake identity, with them married until she ran off suddenly in 2014 - the same year Cindy's daughter Lucy was killed.

As the episode came to an end, George spotted Cindy and could only stare at her in complete shock as he realised, unaware of her true identity, that she was back. Cindy was as equally as shocked, not knowing until this exact moment that George was now in Walford.

As the famous Doof Doof aired, viewers were obsessed with the scenes that unfolded, and thrilled to have Cindy back. Many took to Twitter claiming the same thing, that the return was "classic" and "everything", ready to see what else the character had in store for Walford.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "Cindy’s Walford return tonight is a classic. @missmcollins & Gillian Taylforth have such a great dynamic and they’re soon scrapping! The ‘doof-doof’ really does set up a stellar week." Another agreed: "Cindy v Kathy was everything I needed it to be."

A third fan said: "Cindy’s return to Albert Square didn’t disappoint," while a fourth tweeted: "Cindy's Return is EVERYTHING." A fifth viewer added: "Oh my god. Today's #Eastenders was perfection. Glad they didn't drag it out and those Cindy/Kathy scenes were ones for the ages. And that cliffhanger..."
