EastEnders legend Louisa Lytton has dropped her biggest hint yet that she could be returning to the BBC soap after a two-year break.

The actress shot to fame playing gangland boss Johnny’s daughter Ruby Allen in Walford from 2005 to 2006 and again from 2018 to 2021, when she left the show while pregnant in real life and on-screen.

Since then Louisa, 34, has gone on to give birth to a daughter called Aura, now two, and marry businessman Ben Bhanvra, 32, who she tied the knot with in a romantic ceremony in Tuscany last year after Covid pushed their plans back twice.

After taking some time out to be a mum, Louisa is getting ready to star in the touring version of 2:22 A Ghost Story, the hit London show featuring a cast that has already included Lily Allen, Cheryl Tweedy and Jaime Winstone.

Away from acting, Louisa also has a unisex clothing business called Aura Soul London, named after her daughter. It was set up during her maternity leave and sells matching neutral outfits the whole family, including male, female and kids, can wear.

While EastEnders haven’t asked her back just yet, Ruby says the door has always been left open for her to return. Fans were recently begging for her character to make a comeback after her name was mentioned in an conversation between Sam and Phil Mitchell.

The last time viewers saw Louisa as Ruby was when she was led away from Albert Square in handcuffs after the Slater family finally got justice for Ruby's pack of lies after she claimed Stacey made her lose her baby.

Teasing a potential return in a chat with OK! magazine, Louise said: “I definitely could do it storyline-wise. Ruby was pregnant, so there’s a baby potentially waiting to turn up in Walford and James Bye [Martin Fowler], who played my husband, is still in the show, so who knows? EastEnders was where I started out and I loved it there, so I’d never say never.”

In the same interview, Louisa also opened up about how she feels going back to work after having her much longed for baby girl. The first time she was away from her was in November last year, when Louisa briefly returned to the stage for a five-date run of The Vagina Monologues in Cheltenham.

But she revealed she missed Aura so much, she drove 100 miles back to London through the night just to see her for a few hours before driving back to Cheltenham for the next evening’s performance.

“I needed to see her. It’s hard to explain how that need feels. It’s a very physical, bodily experience,” Louisa explained. “Aura was absolutely fine, having the time of her life! It was all me. I always wanted to be a mum, but you never know how much you can love another person until you have a baby.”

Fans can catch Louise in the 2:22 A Ghost Story, which will tour the UK from September 1, 2023 until 1 June 2024.
