The Killers' Brandon Flowers 'in crisis' after scrapping new album
Brandon Flowers has admitted he's in a 'crisis', after revealing The Killers have scrapped their planned album because it wasn't "the kind of record" he wanted to make anymore.
The frontman of the beloved rock band teased new music earlier this month, but has now announced that he's abandoned the original project. "Halfway through recording I realised, 'I can’t do this,'" Brandon, 42, said. "I don’t think you’ll see us making this type of music any more."
The stark confession comes just a few days after The Killers released their new song, Your Side of Town. The anthem, which marks the band's first single of the year, has been described by critics as 'synth heavy' and 'brooding.' Produced by the band along with Stuart Price and Sean Everett, its lyrics explore the pain of unrequited love while its electronic beat invites listeners onto the dance floor. The Killers performed it for the first time ever at Reading 2023, much to the delight of their adoring UK fanbase.

"This is the crisis I’m in," he told The Times. "The Killers are my identity and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music like Pressure Machine. I found a side of myself writing it that was strong. This was the guy I’d been looking for!" Pressure Machine, which was released in 2021, was met with rave reviews from critics who hailed the band's courage to explore a slower and more sombre sound.

"I'm as proud of Hot Fuss as you can be for something you did when you were 20, but I’m not 20," he explained. Elsewhere in the interview, he discussed the "conflict" in his wishes to swap the large arenas for smaller gigs.
"What point do I make that change? Who in the band wants to do that too?" he mused. "No matter what, there will always be people who look at me and just think of Somebody Told Me. And I get that. But I’m interested in evolving." The Killers were joined at Reading over the weekend by an impressive line-up of other A-list acts, including Billie Eilish, The 1975 and Imagine Dragons.
Brandon also recently performed alongside Elton John at Glastonbury for a rendition of his 1971 hit song, Tiny Dancer. Speaking about the experience, he joked, "People were hoping Britney Spears" would perform instead."
