Aston Villa's team bus was attacked after their win at Burnley

Aston Villa's team bus was attacked after the Clarets' 3-1 victory away at Burnley on Sunday afternoon.

Unai Emery's men were travelling back from Turf Moor following the impressive win when the incident occurred at junction 10 of the M65. Multiple reports state the bus was significantly damaged after an object was thrown at the windscreen.

Burnely have since released a statement on the situation, which read: "Burnley Football Club is saddened and dismayed to learn about an attack on the Aston Villa team bus at junction 10 of the M65 after today’s match. Having spoken with Villa we are relieved to hear nobody was hurt in the incident. We strongly condemn this behaviour and will support Lancashire Police in their efforts to find whoever was responsible."

Bricks were thrown at the windscreen and coach footage has since been handed over to Lancashire Police. It marred what was an otherwise succeessful afternoon for Unai Emery's men, with a brace from Matty Cash and a Moussa Diaby goal enough to hand Villa all three points.

Following the full-time whistle but before the coach attack, Emery waxed lyrical about the performance and praised his players for their execution of his game plan.

"I'm very happy. Our supporters, they were with us as well, they came from Birmingham to watch the game, to support us and we’re really very happy," he added. "We are feeling stronger with them. Those three points were very important in our idea to progress in the Premier League.

Unai Emery was pleased with how his Aston Villa side got the better of Burnley

"After the match we played against Everton, a very good match as well, very good points after losing to Newcastle away. This was a very big challenge for us, we were speaking about it, and we tried to play tactically, defensively and offensively, strong. The players did the gameplan perfectly."

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany was understandably less pleased with the outcome, but did insist there was reasons to be optimistic. "We played against a side with a lot of quality," the Belgian explained.

"In the key moments, they punished us. At 2-1, it looked like we would come back to 2-2. We created enough chances, the difference was in both boxes.

"We have the belief that our team is ready to rise to that level and embrace every challenge. You don't play against a good side, create as many chances as we did, and look at it negatively."
