The latest in a series of Boots store closures is taking place today (August 26). The move comes as the retailer has promised to close 300 stores nationwide over the next year.

Eight stores have now closed their doors for good with seven more stores set to be axed before the end of the year. The latest to get the chop is the shop in Holywell in Flintshire, Wales, the Express reports.

The firm has made the drastic move as part of plans to reduce their shops across the brand from 2,200 to 1,900. However Boots did not confirm which stores would go when the plans were announced in June. Then in July the company announced the names of the first nine branches that would be closing this year.

Last week two more names were added to that list according to local news reports. The dates for these new closures have also been revealed. Coventry Live announced that the Boots pharmacy at Jardine Crescent in Tile Hill, Coventry will close for good later this year. Meanwhile the Liverpool Echo reported news of another store closure. The Boots branch in pharmacy in Castle Street, Liverpool, is set to close at the end of the year, it reported.

A spokesperson for Boots explained: "We can confirm that the stores listed are part of the Boots store consolidation programme previously announced. All team members from these stores will be offered alternative roles." The retailer currently employs more than 52,000 people.”
