Brenda Blethyn was on hand to help an 81-year-old super fan who collapsed whilst watching them film the new season of Vera.

The ITV drama - which stars Brenda in the titular role - is back filming in Redcar, with fans rushing to see the cast and crew work on their favourite show. Brenda is returning as Vera whilst David Leon is also reprising his role as DS Joe Ashworth.

During filming yesterday, one woman fell ill whilst watching them do the scenes and ended up collapsing. She was struggling in the heat and headed over to find a bench, but before she could get there, she collapsed. It was Brenda who came to her rescue and when she came around, she was shocked to see Brenda checking her pulse.

Ms Iveson told ITV of her encounter with the actress: "Bless her! She's lovely. She told me to take care and look after myself. She said she was busy and had to run. She was like a little rabbit. Back to work. She came out of a fish shop and she came to me pretending to take my temperature and my pulse. She was laughing - pretending to be a nurse."

The production's medical team had been checking on Ms Iveson, before Brenda came over herself to check if everything was alright. They even posed for a selfie together, with Brenda in her trademark Vera costume including her bucket hat.

"She's so natural - really friendly. You talk with her like she is an old relative or friend. She just came bouncing over and joined in. If you didn't know her off the telly she's just like someone in the town going about her own business. I never thought I was going to meet her. I couldn't thank her enough. She came right out of her way and she was busy. She was like a bird flying all over," she said.

When she left, Brenda was quick to check on Ms Iveson and make sure she was ok. Whilst she said she hoped to see her soon, Ms Iveson quipped she didn't think she'd be welcome back to filming again after giving everyone such a fright.
