Pret A Manger has announced huge changes to its coffee subscription - and it’s good news for customers.

The discount Club Pret members receive on food, drink and snacks is being doubled from 10% to 20% from September 5. Club Pret costs £30 a month and also gives members five free Barista-prepared drinks a day. The scheme cost just £20 when it launched in September 2020.

Pret has also today announced it will expand its Club Pret scheme into the US next month, followed by France in November. New subscribers get their first month half-price.

Pano Christou, CEO of Pret, said: “Club Pret was built on the idea of rewarding our most loyal customers, giving them more reasons to visit Pret and helping them enjoy everything our menu has to offer. Since we relaunched the subscription, we’re seeing more customers pick up their favourite baguette or croissant with their usual coffee fix, making the most of Club Pret throughout the day, and sharing the benefits with their friends and colleagues.

“We’re now ready to take this even further, doubling the Club Pret discount and expanding this offer to customers outside of the UK. Club Pret has become a critical part of our growth strategy and we’re excited to bring it to more people than ever before, delivering great value in the process.”

The news comes after Pret returned to profit for the first time since 2018. In its financial results published last month, Pret recorded an operating profit of £50.6million in the year to December 2022. Its sales jumped 20% to £430million in the six months to the end of June.

Pret attributed the strong early sales to the relaunch of Club Pret, which had previously been called Pret Coffee Subscription and did not originally include the 10% discount when it was launched. Pret said the new offering - which was revamped and renamed in April this year - has seen 17.8million UK redemptions in its first three months alone, up 31% year-on-year.

Pret has more than 400 coffee shops across the UK. You can locate your nearest branch using the Pret store finder tool.
