Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has shared the secret behind her dramatic weight loss, as she dropped three stone.

The I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! star, 59, has lost a significant amount of weight and changed her style over recent years. Sue, who is best known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw in the soap, has dropped several dress sizes since first appearing on our screens - going from a size 16 to a 12. The actress has now confessed one of her lifestyle changes might not go down so well with her character.

Despite being a regular at Rovers Return, Sue decided to give up drinking after she was having “lots of red wine” during the coronavirus pandemic. She now no longer drinks at all, saying being in a pub is her idea of "hell". The TV star said: “I went on HRT about a year and a half ago and realised I should have done that about five years ago.

"I was walking around in a bit of a fog and then I literally made some massive changes," she told The Sun. Sue confesses she put on "a lot of weight" by drinking wine in lockdown. She added: "Then I did dry January and I thought: ‘I wonder what life would be like if I stopped completely?’”

Following her weight loss, Sue wants to make it clear she isn't someone who obsesses over diets and weighing herself, telling Prima Magazine in March: "I lost some weight in the jungle, but I’m not obsessing over diets: life is hard enough! There's always going to be outside pressure and unfair expectations placed on women, but I refuse to get pulled into it.

"That's why I’ll never promote anything weight-related, and it’s why I’d always compliment somebody on their smile or outfit, rather than their weight." The actress went on to gush over how her fifties have been the happiest ten years of her life, adding she's happy with herself and where she is.

The soap star recently hit out at scammers who have been using her image to flog weight loss food supplements. It seems some opportunists are trying to hijack Sue’s weight loss for their own financial gain, by claiming that she used their products to shift the pounds. She took to social media to furiously deny that she has been taking supplements - and revealed that a health issue was a reason she continued to lose weight after her time in Australia for I’m A Celeb.

Addressing her followers, she said: “I’m really, really sad that I have to actually make this video. But, I’ve had quite a lot of messages over the last couple of weeks asking me about… keto dummies. There is obviously some scam going around saying that I lost weight using keto gummies. Dummies? I dunno. Well, it’s c**p. It’s a scam. And if you’ve been taken in by it, I am so, so sorry.”

Sue then explained that she was enraged that the scammers were using her image to promote their product. She fumed: “It’s outrageous. And I just want you to know that I would never, ever, ever advocate anything like that. I’m incensed. I’m absolutely incensed. Yes, I lost some weight last year. I stopped drinking and I went in the jungle. Yes, I have lost weight this year. But not from any diet.”

She candidly went on: “I had some ‘women’s health issues’ and I lost quite a lot of weight. Too much weight. I look shocking at the minute. And I’m actually trying to put on weight. I’m absolutely fine. All those things have been dealt with. You get to a certain age, as a woman… things happen. Life’s too short to worry about dieting and finding quick fixes. And just, you know, be happy with yourself. Just… you’re a beautiful human being as you are. It drives me insane and it’s a lesson to all of us.”
