Monica Bellucci has peeled back the covers of her romance with film director Tim Burton - describing him as 'wonderful' and 'spectacular' in a gushing admission of love.

The 58-year-old Italian actress has been linked to the 64-year-old American director for more than a year and has now made rare comment about their romance. The pair went public with their love at the Lumiere Film Festival in Lyon in October 2022 amid reports they had already been dating for four months.

The pair originally met way back in 2006 on the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival - but they were both in relationships at the time. Now that the pair are together, Monica has nothing but good things to say about Tim.

Opening up to Harper's Bazaar Espana, Monica gushed over the blossoming romance. She told the glossy fashion magazine: “I found in Tim [Burton] a wonderful spirit. I met a spectacular soul.”

She also opened up on her struggle to cope with fame - having been in the spotlight since the dawn of the 1990s. She declared: “Fame is a double-edged sword, it causes a lot of curiosity and can also provoke conflicting feelings. When I am not working, I like to lead a normal life - I go shopping, I take my daughters to school.”

It’s not the first time Monica has opened up about her feeling for Tim. She previously told Elle France: “What I can say... I'm glad I met the man, first of all. It's one of those encounters that rarely happens in life... I know the man, I love him, and now I'm going to meet the director, another adventure begins.”

She went on to praise his directing skills - having been ordered around on set of Beetlejuice 2 by the man himself. She said: “I love Tim. And I have great respect for Tim Burton. I love this dream world where the monsters are kind, like we can turn our darker aspects into something bright, forgiving. Tim Burton's films talk about that a lot.”

Monica was previously married to French film star Vincent Cassel, 56, with whom she shares two daughters; Deva, born in September 2004, and Léonie, born in May 2010. They met on the set of The Apartment in 1995 and married in August 1999.

But love was not to last, and the pair split in 2013 and divorced - but have remained close. Meanwhile, Tim famously was in a relationship with British actress Helena Bonham Carter between 2001 and 2014.

The pair never married, famously lived in adjoining homes and share a son and daughter together.
