This Morning hosts slammed for 'stupid' remark about murderer Lucy Letby

This Morning hosts Rochelle Humes and Andi Peters were slammed for a comment they made during a discussion about serial killer nurse Lucy Letby.

Rochelle and Andi were presenting on the famous blue sofa on August 21 and went through the latest headlines. They discussed the murderer, who was convicted of murdering seven premature babies and attempting to murder six more while working at The Countess of Chester Hospital between June 2015 and June 2016.

The nurse injected the newborn babies with air, force-fed them milk and poisoned some of them with insulin. Her year-long murder spree began in 2015 and she struck mostly on night shifts when she was alone on the ward looking after sleeping babies at the Countess of Chester hospital.

Two doctors started trying to find a cause for the mysterious collapses and began connecting the dots after spotting that Letby had been on shift for each of the incidents. The killer is being sentenced on Monday at Manchester Crown Court. This Morning presenter Andi and Rochelle discussed the case live on air.

Fans were upset after hearing Rochelle said the serial killer didn't "seem like a typical murderer". Taking to Twitter, now called X, one user said: "Stupid thing to say. She doesn't look like a murderer. Ffs, seriously, think before you speak!!!" Another said: "Doesn’t look like your normal murderer, wtf does that even mean? Good job we know what normal murderers look like so we can give them a wide berth."

"What is a murderer supposed to look like? I mean they can look as normal as you or I," another questioned while one user commented: "These two are confused because they think Lucy Letby doesn’t look like a murderer…"

The killer was found not guilty of two counts of attempted murder and the jury was unable to reach a verdict if she tried to kill another four. During searches of her address, a number of closely written notes were discovered. On one green Post-it note she wrote: "I don't deserve to live. I killed them on purpose because I'm not good enough to care for them", "I am a horrible evil person" and in capital letters "I am evil I did this".

Following her conviction, the Government ordered an independent inquiry which will investigate the handling of concerns raised by staff at the hospital and what action was taken by regulators and the wider health service. It will also look at the circumstances behind her offending.
