BBC Radio star Nihal Arthanayake slammed BBC bosses for reprimanding him when he responds to racist trolls on social media. The 52-year-old is active on Twitter and has no issues slamming the offensive messages he receives.

However, it seems that bosses have an issue with his sweary responses and always have a "go at him" for replying to them. "The BBC has a go at me every time I swear at someone on here. It's hard not to at these racists," he tweeted to his 115,000 followers on Sunday night.

Fans rushed to the comment section to defend the BBC Radio 5 star, with one writing: "I think you have every right to swear at racists," and another urged him to continue calling people out: "Keep on swearing when you need to. Some people don’t understand any other language."

"Nihal. You got this bro! Wishing you wet my friend," one user posted while another commented: "Then the BBC should cut you some slack, we should all swear at racists. In fact it should be mandatory!!" It comes moments after Nihal received a comment telling him that he "isn't wanted here [in England]."

"You always complain about how Britain is still racist. That is because we don't want you here. Leave now," the disgusting troll commented. Nihal was quick to answer and tweeted: "I am English you melon."

Earlier this year, Nihal was racially abused in Manchester and reported the incident to police. Nihal confirmed this, saying on social media: "I wasn't going to report it to the police but my mate said that I should and now I have." In another post, he said: “Impressed that @gmpolice have already been in touch. Looking at investigating a Racially Aggravated Public Order Offence.”

But he stopped short of publicly revealing certain details of the incident, which happened outside a pub in Altrincham as he waited for his wife. "I won’t be mentioning the name of the pub because I had a great time in there before encountering that racist man,” the star said. "Pubs are finding it hard enough as it is to stay open without being stained unfairly.”

Taking to Twitter last week to share shocking details of what had happened to him, Nihal said he was asked if he was a doctor before being called a p*** and then the N-word. The BBC star recounted what happened during the conversation with the man in a video message shared on his social media.
