Greene King will be handing out free pints during the Women's World Cup final

Greene King, among the biggest chain in the country with over 900 pubs, will be handing out free drinks to celebrate the Lionesses reaching the World Cup final.

England's Women take on Spain as they eye a first ever World Cup success, just 12 months after securing the Euros on home soil. Their exploits in Australia have captured the nation and fans will tune in to their showpiece game against Spain, which kicks-off at 11pm.

Fans heading to a Greene King pub can land a free drink by simply turning up in either the England kit, England colours or England face paint. The offer will be live on Sunday from 11am to 2pm as will allow customers to enjoy anything from cask ales, lagers, craft beers, wines, spirits and mixers.

Ales include Green Kine IPA, Old Speckled Hen and Yardbird whilst the lagers on offer vary from Beavertown Neck Oil to Estrella. Strongbow Dark Fruits, Thatchers Gold and Aspall are among the ciders on offer whilst G&T drinkers can also get involved.

Michelle West, head of sport marketing for Greene King said: "The team has performed incredibly over the course of the tournament, and we’re so excited for the final against Spain this Sunday. This is the first time any England football team has been in a World Cup final since 1966 so we want to throw the ultimate celebration in all of our 900+ Sport pubs.

"We're asking fans to head to their local Greene King Sports pub and show their colours in support of the team, literally – all you need to do is wear England colours, kit or face paint and you can grab yourself a free drink. This is a fantastic opportunity to get behind the team and continue to boost the profile of women's sport in the UK, so join us for the ultimate party this weekend."

The Lionesses saw off the hosts in the semi-final earlier this week and will take on Spain, whom they beat in the last eight at the Euros last summer, in the final. English football continues to discuss the men's achievement back in 1966 - the country's only ever World Cup triumph.

Now the likes of Alessia Russo, Ella Toone and Lauren Hemp are hoping to enjoy another moment in the sun by further etching their names into history with their coach not content with simply making the final.

England manager Sarina Wiegman said: "Everyone's talking about 1966, so let's be at our best on Sunday and try and be successful. Making a final is special but with this team and the challenges we had, how we find a way all the time to solve problems has been amazing - [it's] very special being in a final but now we want to win it too."
